The Green Project of Long Island proudly endorsed "Deco Bikes" today as part of a pilot program on the Long Beach Boardwalk. The Go Green program of cutting our carbon blue print will keep our beaches here on Long Island clean and carbon free. We support our citys efforts to make Long Beach greener, however with council approval, we must enact and push our city council now rather than later to put Bike Lanes in our city. We cannot wait till next year to go forward with this plan. We urge all of our Long Beach citizens now to get on the this bandwagon and tell your city council that the sands are getting darker in Long Beach. Proven fact: from Nevada Avenue to New York avenue, on a summer day, it takes a car about 15mins to cross town. The amount of carbon emissions emitted in the air runs north and south and is greatly affecting the quality of life all over Long Beach. We encourage not only Deco Bikes to push forward with their partnership of our city but all three bike shops to begin a similar program as soon as possible.
Bike Sharing Membership is a concept that has been used very successfully in a variety of European cities, such as Paris and Barcelona. A membership allows a rider to check out and return ANY available bike from ANY station, all day long. The first 30min of every ride is included for free, so it gets you from station to station where you dock/park the bike, then just grab another one when you are ready to ride again (like a taxi, but a lot more fun!). The 30min trip clock resets each time you arrive at a station/destination, so you get UNLIMITED 30min rides at no extra charge. When docked, the bike is then available for the next person to use. Since it's bike 'sharing' you do not keep the bike in your possession the whole day.
